The real value of staff training is perhaps no more apparent than when dealing with the consequences of its absence. Indeed, ongoing staff development and education are at the core of a secure and cost-effective operation.

Corrections is a tough and demanding field where staff need all the advantages they can get. While some training (for both uniformed and clinical staff) is mandated by regulatory agencies such as OSHA or the CDC, much of the need relates to changes in policy and procedure designed to improve safety and reduce costs.

In addition to educating staff regarding operational procedures and security needs, formally documented training can also play a role in establishing the basis for a defense against claims raised by offenders and staff alike.
